The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird ranges from Mexico to South America. In Guatemala, the Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is abundant in the Caribbean Lowland and Peten (Land, H. C. 1970 Birds of Guatemala). According to Smith, F. B. 1986 Las Aves de Tikal, the Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is common in Tikal National Park and the most numerous hummingbird in Tikal. I have encountered them frequently over the years in Tikal.
